LAKE CLOSURE2019-02-05T23:26:46+00:00

Unfortunately we have just received final clarification from health authorities that due to high levels of Blue Green Algae, Lake Burley Griffin has been deemed unfit for swimmers. In the last 48 hours we have worked closely with authorities and Triathlon ACT to enable the Proximity Canberra Triathlon Festival to proceed as originally planned (SWIM, Bike, Run). This included retesting of the Lake and sourcing other locations within Canberra, but to no avail. We understand that this will be as much a frustration for our competitors as it is for our staff who have worked tirelessly for the event to go ahead in its planned format. Elite Energy has always placed its athlete safety as its utmost priority and for this reason we have changed the event to a Run, Ride, Run duathlon format.

The new format distance for the Corporate and Community race is: 1km Run, 10km Ride, 2km Run

“I know there’ll be disappointment for those involved in the swim leg but the weekend forecast looks great and we’re still looking forward to a great fun day, especially for those who have signed up for their first event of this type. With the lake off-limits we’ll now be calling the event a “Dryathlon” – Mark “Emo” Emerton, Director Elite Energy.

The Event will still be centred at the Rond Terrace, Parkes Way. The Bike leg will use Parkes Way. Both Run legs will use R G Menzies Walk on the lake foreshore.

Online registration close at 5pm 6 Feb. Onsite registrations will be taken from 7am Saturday morning until 11am.
